Bricklaying
Pro Bricklaying
The flagship head-to-head test of speed and quality for working bricklayers.
Overview
Pro Bricklaying is the flagship Super Trowel competition. Working bricklayers go head to head against the clock, laying as many bricks as possible to a professional standard. Every run is measured, judged for quality, and scored the same way at every event, so the leaderboard is directly comparable across the season.
Format and entry
Format
Timed head-to-head runs on identical wall setups. Bricks laid are counted on completion, then deductions are applied for any brick outside tolerance. Scoring bricks = bricks laid − deductions.
Who can enter
Working bricklayers aged 18 and over, employed or self-employed, from anywhere in the UK and Ireland.
Pathway
Regional heats run through the season across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Top performers qualify for the Super Trowel Final, where season points and the Final result decide the champion.
Rules and judging
Rules
• Scoring bricks = bricks laid − deductions. • Deductions are applied by the judges for any brick outside tolerance on line, level, plumb, gauge or jointing. • From the 2026 season, a Pro run with deductions of 15% or more of bricks laid is disqualified and does not place. The run stays on record in the event history. • Disqualified and withdrawn runs never score ranking points. • Judges' decisions are final.
Judging and scoring
Every wall is inspected brick by brick after time is called. Quality is expressed as a percentage of the wall inside tolerance. Season rankings blend placement points, scoring bricks, bricks laid and quality percentage, so consistency across the season counts as well as one big run.
